City of San Diego Portable Pool Program


Program Purpose

According to the CA Department of Public Health form  2000 to 2017, there were 491 drowning deaths in San Diego.  The entire City of San Diego is a beach community and every child in San Diego, deserves the opportunity to learn water safety and to swim. 


ActivitY

Funding of 2 portable programs 

Robert Egger Sr. / South Bay Recreation Center:  Council District 8

Paradise Hills Recreation Center:  Council District 4


The program includes a Supervising Recreation Specialist, Swimming Pool Manager, and 2 Pool Guards and pools supplies and utilities necessary.


Outputs: (from 2018 enrollment)

Robert Egger Sr. / South Bay:  303 swimmers

Paradise Hills:  293 swimmers


Proposed outcomes:  

Survey using scale of swimming safety and competency


Partnership:  SDPF along with Prevent Drowning non-profit:  will give upon completion of swim lessons - “Trip to the Beach.”
